Champagne Manziel on the Quest to Make a Name for Himself and his City

Champagne Manziel has no choice but to make it big in the music industry. The hip-hop artist took a chance a year ago by quitting his job and dropping out of college to pursue his passion seriously. The Orange County, California native’s name was inspired by Drake, A.K.A. Champagne Papi, and former NFL player, Johnny Manziel.

Because Orange County is often swallowed up in conversation as being part of Los Angeles, Champagne Manziel wants to give his county a reputable name by using its culture in his music. The artist strongly reps his city, Santa Ana, and was inspired by the local rappers in his community such as DomTheKid, Kxllswxtch, and Zay27. Champagne Manziel got motivation from attending their local shows, decided to try out music on his own, and has been running with it ever since because of the positive responses he’s gotten.

The independent artist sees himself exploring other genres, but currently describes his sound as West Coast Trap Hip-Hop. He is very open about not writing his own lyrics, but brings exceptional energy to his music due to whatever he is going through in the moment. He also likes to have fun with it and, “…talk a lot of sh*t too.”

He has performed in multiple shows such as 714 Show, Night at Gotham City, Juice Chella, and We Up Next Fest. The up and coming artist had more shows lined up this year, but were unfortunately cancelled due to the pandemic. Some might compare Champagne Manziel’s voice and persona to that of Shoreline Mafia’s Ohgeesy, but he hopes to be known for his own standout sound.

The Santa Ana artist is motivated by his immigrant parents who did their best raising him. He claims, “It’s only right to make them rich.” Although young himself, born in 1998, Champagne Manziel is hoping to positively impact the kids in his city. As someone who went through depression and drug addiction, he wants to show them that it is possible to make it out, but with no handouts.
