Born in Flatbush, Brooklyn, artist K.A. is ready to begin his journey. After his birth, the artist continued living in New York in South Jamaica, Queens. K.A. is just starting his journey as he recently released his first project, “Cries of A Rose.” He explains that the record has an entire backstory that involves a man named Richard Parks Jr. who is a 20 year-old African American man from Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York trying to make it as a rapper. He recalls, “it’s a concept record about a young Black man trying to make it as a rapper in Brooklyn and take care of his child, but he’s got one foot in the drug game and one foot out.”
His original name is Anglade (un-glod). However, the artist changed his name to his initials, K.A., so it would be easier to pronounce. It also has a nice ring to it! As an artist, K.A. explains his image as someone who is relatable. He remains relatable through his fashion. He says that, “I’m super casual in terms of my appearance, I dress in everyday apparel such as Nike, Puma, white-T’s, jeans. You know, anything that feels comfortable so I’m sure there are many out there that can relate. I’m not a flashy dude at all, haha.”
Musicals, K.A. describes his sound as “an eclectic mix of Hip-Hop/Rap/R&B.” His childhood and adolescent years in New York greatly impacted his sound! He shares that he has a “variety of tastes in terms of what I’m interested in and like due to my background of growing up in New York City and Caribbean roots that I never want to stick to just one sound.” In addition to these influential genres, his musical inspiration also comes from a variety of artists. He explains that artists such as Nas, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Bow Wow, Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, Gil-Scott Heron, Kanye, Lupe, The Game, and Pharrell are responsible for his inspiration.
Now, K.A. currently resides in Philadelphia. Although he explains that it has been a rough journey, he is still optimistic about his craft: “No, it has not been a smooth road and it hasn’t been a hard one either if I’m really being honest because I’m still new at this in a sense and still learning. I’ve been an artist for a very long time as I used to write and perform poetry all throughout New York City but I’m more so delving into music and making it a full-time commitment for myself.”
