With his stage name respecting his parental units, Drew Blessed is taking the underground scene by storm. Born in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, NY and growing up in East Flatbush, this young artist is making waves with his laid back sound and chill production. Describing his rap style as infectious, he offers funny bars, clever alliterations, arrogant wordplay and draws inspiration from old school hip hop over abstract and soulful beats that he produced himself. Blessed began making music back in 2015 and has since released a number of projects including his first beat tape Lazy Vol 1, which definitely opened up doors for him. As the years have passed, he has gained the respect among his peers and has had the opportunity to work with Uncle Shemmy and making beats for Masta Ace in which he shares as one of his biggest accomplishments. He draws musical inspiration from MF DOOM, Eminem and Jay Z, hoping he can collaborate with the mogul in the near future. With the new year approaching, Blessed hopes to release his debut album Blessed Child after he drops his mixtape Drew World Order as well as continue to make connections and meet producers that share his similar vision.
When not creating music, he enjoys the simple things such as playing basketball, reading good books, spending time with his family and fishing with his dad, who he calls one of his biggest motivations. “An old head Jamaican dude that has the best 5 word advice ever. He reminds me everyday that my goals are getting closer and he holds me accountable with all my decisions,” he kindly shares about his father. He worked as an EMS for the New York Fire Department and had the opportunity to work with many outreach programs, setting up BBQs, giving away school supplies, coats and sweaters as well as helping with Meals on Wheels. He also was able to speak on a panel for Project 1865 Inc. during the pandemic.
Though he admits that it has not always been a smooth road, he shares that he tends to overthink his work and often times that disrupts his creative process. But all in all, he has enjoyed the experience and opportunities that have risen since his popularity has escalated. He hopes that in the next five years to win a Grammy and have his name at the top with some of the greatest. “Thank you so much for rocking with me, I won’t disappoint or give up until we accomplished everything we set out for. Bet on yourself ! Forever and always!,” he advices his fans and appreciates that love he has received through the entire experience.
