One of her favorite quotes is: “Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly.” Meet the R&B artist that’s ready to take flight. Caleya Black is an independent artist with dreams of one day walking the red carpet at The Grammys. Her overall sound can be described as “sweet soul” and she is inspired by the talents of Smokey Robinson, Sade, and Whitney Houston. Caleya is an “R&B singer with a nostalgic sound” as well as a songwriter.
Caleya started creating poetry which evolved into her eventually writing music. “I wrote my first song in middle school and continued writing & singing ever since then. As the first from my family to go to college, I decided to first get my degree before fully pursuing a career in music.”
When asked about what drives her to keep going, she says that her godfather would be her biggest motivation. “I really want him to see me make it, even if he is no longer here physically. I don’t want all of his belief and effort that he put into my career to be in vain.” She also mentions that she is motivated by wanting to give her children the life she never had.
From singing at church as a little girl, to having her song featured in the season 2 of a UMC’s original series, Caleya Black has a bright future ahead of her. She recently released her newest single, “Innocent” on January 21st, 2022. It’s a soulful song about the secrets that may be hiding inside of your partner’s cell phone.
This year she plans on releasing her 2nd EP, so be sure to look out for that as well!
